Anticipating Harvest

Anticipating Harvest

We can feel summer right around the corner and it seems that every day something changes at the farm. Just a few weeks ago there were only blossoms and now, not a blossom to be found. The stunning white bells have been replaced by the green orbs that will soon (we're talking weeks!) be ready for harvesting. We can see slight traces of pink and blue in the mix and that is a fantastic sign! Gear up, plan your weekend to Bow-Edison and get ready for you-picking, tramping around the fields and enjoying blueberry ice cream in the heat of the summer.

Let's enjoy some fresh strawberries! I know we're a blueberry farm and all, but we love supporting our neighbors and employees. With that, we're so happy to announce that strawberries from Silva Family Farm (run by our field manager, Pablo, and exceptional picker, Maura) are here and in full swing! The strawberries are sticking around for the season--now through October, with a bit of a slowdown in the month of August. Come on by our farm store or the Edison Farmers Market (Sundays 10-2) to find them. Inspired by late summer and this abundance of strawberries, we've added a few strawberry-centric recipes to our page. What a sweet beginning to summer.

And, if you're still craving blueberries, remember we have an online shop and fabulous recipe page. This week we're featuring the Bowjito. Try your hand at this twist on a classic! Mint is back in season and thanks to preservation, we've got plenty of juice. A mocktail by nature, this drink is good for all. If you'd like to make it a bit more like the classic, add 2 ounces of white rum to the recipe below. The recipe can also be found on the hang tag on each bottle of our organic heirloom cold-pressed juice.

Rim glass with lime and then raw sugar.
Muddle lime wedges with 5 mint leaves.
Add ice, 2 oz blueberry juice and 4 oz sparkling water.
Garnish with lime and mint sprigs.

Our farm store is open Monday through Saturday 10-5 and Sunday from 11-5. We're fully stocked with all our products, ice cream, frozen blueberries and fresh and beautiful strawberries!
