Bacon-Blueberry Dog Biscuit
Many dog biscuit recipes contain ingredients that are not good for dogs – these ones are! Bow Hill Blueberry Powder provides more than a daily dose of antioxidants for our furry friends. Flax seeds provide healthy omega-3 oils that help Fido’s coat gleam. Oats are a fantastic alternative to wheat flour. Treat your pup with the best of a homemade dog biscuit – they will love them!
Yield: 30 biscuits
Prep: 30 minutes
2 cups old-fashioned oats
¾ cup Bow Hill Blueberry Powder
½ cup flax seeds, ground
2 tbsp bacon fat*
½ cup chicken stock or water
Heat oven to 325°F.
In a food processor, pulse 1½ cups of the oats until they are a course flour. Grind the flax seed in a coffee grinder. Combine the oat flour and remaining ½ cup of whole oats, blueberry powder and flax meal. Stir in the bacon fat, eggs and chicken stock until a sturdy dough forms.
Generously sprinkle flour on a counter top. Roll the dough ½” thick and cut into your desired shapes. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silpat. After placing on the baking sheet, brush each shape with chicken stock or water.
Bake 1 hour. Turn oven off and leave the biscuits in the oven with the door closed for another hour to completely dry out. Store in an airtight container until Fido has finished them off!
*can substitute coconut or olive oil for the bacon fat
